Emily Domres lives and works in Northfield, Minnesota, and recently completed the Emerging Artist residency at St. Olaf College. She mainly works in oil paint, combining themes of memory and nostalgia with femininity and girlhood. Her work complicates moments of celebration with mourning and reconnecting with girlhood. Saturated colors and dream-like auras are visual staples of her recent work, blending realism with abstraction.
She has been exploring oil pastels and revisiting gouache and watercolor to illustrate domestic and natural scenes from childhood memories. Vibrant colors, thick textures, and watery layers create a sense of childlike movement that is integral to her practice.
In her free time, Emily enjoys crocheting hair ties, bags, and wearables, and is always on the lookout for new patterns.
Emily’s ceramic production is on hold until she finds a new studio space in the Twin Cities.
